Due to the presence of illegal anabolic agents listed on their labels, the products Epistane and Trenavar, both from German Pharmaceuticals, have just been added to the OPSS High-Risk Supplement List. According to the Supplement Facts panel, the product Epistane contains 2α, 3α-epithio-17α-methyl-etioallocholan-17β-ol. According to its Supplement Facts panel, the product Trenavar contains Estra-4,9,11-triene-3,17-dione. Both of these ingredients are controlled substances (street names “epistane” and “trenavar”) and were added to Schedule III of the Controlled Substances Act with the passing of the Designer Anabolic Steroid Control Act (DASCA) in 2014. Both compounds are also prohibited in sport by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

There have been reports of adverse events, specifically liver injury, associated with both of these products. Please visit OPSS.org to view updates to the OPSS High-Risk Supplement List and the OPSS list of DoD-prohibited substances.
